What type of experience do you have?
I've been on worksites since I has 14, having grown up in a family of builders, mainly carpenters, in my village in New Zealand. From there I came to Australia and did various manual jobs, labouring, mining construction, commercial work, resort building and office refurbishments as an employee.
In terms of residential work, since my 20's, I have built houses for family, friends and owner-builders, and worked with other builders on home constructions, often on the more challenging parts of the job. Many other jobs have been make-safe insurance work, refurbishments and renovations.
What have been some of the more challenging jobs?
Some of the more challenging works have been building a deck over a 30 metre cliff, (20 square metres designed to carry 100 people), building bridges in McKay and the Parliament House tunnel, both as a member of a construction crew.
What have been some of the more meaningful jobs?
Some of the more meaningful works have been working on a clifftop residence (see feature home), fixing up my late brother's home for his family back in the village and an owner-builder job in Leura, where all the timber finishes were hand-crafted and it has some unusual elements to work with that made it interesting.
